Accessories: A Great and Terrible Beauty
An extension of my senior thesis, this project was an experimentation with accessory design. Each set of accessories has two colorways all based on my thesis fabric samples. In an attempt to keep the overall collection more modern, I chose sunglasses as one of my main accessories and used Victorian techniques: cameo, filigree, and lacing like on a corset. Additionally, the bags reflect more traditional shapes and types of baggage based on research of the Victorian era and reference in the novel A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray.
Photographs of the partially finished muslins from my Parsons senior thesis. Costumes I designed based on the book A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray, these pieces incorporate Victorian elements into modern looks. These are not the final pieces, which will be made in fabric, but are practice pieces in order to fit and edit the patterns. Photos taken by Cat Schaff.
